More Interview Advice Because You Can Never Have Too Much
Articles about succeeding in a job interview are like articles in women's magazines about how to lose 10 pounds in two months - they're ubiquitous, they're predictable, and after you're done reading you still feel a little queasy and unworthy.
So I'm always interested to read fresh information about a stale subject. I had that experience today reading this article and recommend you check it out if you're in job search mode.
Fresh points in the article:
- Take a cue from your media training if you've had any (or read a bit about this if you haven't) and think key message. Your job is to answer questions and get across your key messages.
- Don't panic about having dozens of different anecdotes at the ready to answer questions. Most likely the questions asking for specific examples will fall into just five or six different categories.
- Know the challenges the organization you're interviewing with is facing and prepare your thoughts ahead of time about how you will positively impact those challenges.
- When discussing a mistake you made, talk about what you learned or any other benefits from making it.
The article also includes an interview question randomizer - a cool tool that randomly throws interview curve balls your way so you can test yourself, plus links to articles to help you think through your responses.
