A Career Site for Working Moms in Transition
Some website names you just can't get out of your head. Yummy Mummy Careers is one of them.
I'm not a big fan of the name (reminds me of yogurt somehow) but I do like the tag line: "balancing kids and careers."
This is a Vancouver, B.C.-based site "with the goal of offering accessibility to desirable employment for women who may be unsure of how to maneouver a career change or how to return to the workforce."
You can search for jobs, post your resume, read articles about returning to work, click on ads for nannies, enter a chat room, and sign up for a newsletter.
The site offers job listings for Canada and the U.S., but maybe it's in the beginning stages in the states (for instance there is only one company that has listed jobs in the entire state of Washington). I also am curious whether the jobs that are listed pass some kind of "great for moms" test, in the eyes of the Yummy Mummy Careers founders, Sarah Fowles and James Saddler.
I think the concept behind the site is wonderful. The challenges that the target audience of Yummy Mummy Careers face are complex - finding interesting work at decent pay while simultaneously finding high quality, affordable childcare. I'm encouraged by the website's goal to integrate those diverse needs and resources into one community.
I'll be keeping my eye on this site and hope to see job listings from more companies.
