Getting Off the Corporate Treadmill

What an interesting post on escaping your cubicle over at Zen Habits, followed by an interesting conversation in the comments!

Mark Hayward is the guest blogger for this post, offering his insights on leaving corporate America, as someone who did just that and runs a business on Culebra.

This is a must-read for all of us who are working on "getting out", as well as all of us who need a little reminding about the power of perseverance, whatever the context.

Hi Heather -

Just "stumbled upon" your site...thanks for the kind comments about my guest post over at ZenHabits.

All the best.
Mark

Hi Heather.

Thanks for the reference to Mark's post. I found the post to be stimulating reading.

It is clear that Mark is speaking with experience and that gives what he has to share a lot of credibility in my opinion.

Personally, I managed to stage a successful exit from the Australian corporate world at the age of 28. However, an exit involving retrenchments and lack of suitability for positions I held was not the type of "successful exit" I dreamt about.

My challenge now - I am teaching English in Korea and loving it - is to not get back into the corporate world!

I take my hat off to anyone who has dreamt of making a go of things outside corporate life, taken action and made it happen. (no disrespect intended to those who opt to pursue and persist with corporate life)

However, I doubly take my hat off to those whose exit has not been like mine and did not include getting retrenched in some cases and fired in others.

Cheers

Andrew

Andrew,

Good for you for doing work you enjoy and having a plan to keep choosing environments that work for you! Your blog is quite funny, also.
